Some places reveal themselves slowly. Others greet you with a feeling so immediate it’s almost physical. Waldorf Astoria Riviera Maya is the latter—welcoming us not just with architecture or views, but with people who seem to embody the light and warmth so constantly present in every corner of the space.

We meet Nazareth Carbonari, General Manager, in the lobby, framed by warm light, looking impeccably beach-chic in soft layers that flowed alongside her like mermaid fins. You can’t style this type of ethereal sophistication, it’s a disposition that only a regal few possess. She carries herself with the calm assurance of someone who understands hospitality as an art of attention. As she speaks, her Argentine roots surface in her energy, passion, and unmistakable sense of purpose.

She talks about arriving in Mexico and falling in love with it. “Its culture, its people, and its generosity inspire me every day,” she says, adding that leading the resort feels like both an honor and a privilege. The accolades, which are many—Forbes, AAA, Michelin—are proof of her passion. “Hospitality isn’t just my profession, it’s my dream career.”

What stays with us is how deeply personal it all felt. Walking through the property with her, we become aware of the light: everywhere, deliberate, enveloping. It follows us through open spaces and quiet corners, setting a tone that feels a bit like an eternal moment in time. Much like Nazareth herself, the lighting doesn’t demand attention, it simply makes everything else shine.

We make our way to the glamorous terrace where we find Fabian Cordero, Director of Sales & Marketing in the lobby. He is wearing a marine blue blazer and easy smile, and that unmistakable charm that makes conversation feel instantly lighter. He looks dashing, yes, but more than that, he feels like a natural connector, bringing warmth to a golden room.

It’s so easy to be around Fabian and even easier to get engulfed in who he is. The way he speaks about his projects is endearing. He talks about the two brands he works with as if they are living, breathing characters, likening them to “two beloved children with distinct personalities,” each requiring care, attention, and vision.

We roam around the hotel, taking in the different sites, before eventually wandering back towards the lobby. Fabian speaks about Modern Mexico and how craftsmanship, culture, and natural beauty are intricate parts of the experience that are done so with intention. Listening to Fabian share his ideas with his glimmering smile and sun shining through everywhere made things feel like a flow state of potential.

When we eventually circle back to the lobby, Carolina Moreno, Director of Group Sales, is there, impossible to miss. She wears a short, long-sleeved printed dress with a V-neck—bold without being loud, confident without trying to steal the room. Somehow, it encapsulates her perfectly. There is something daring about her presence, but also a warmth, an ease that makes you want to stay and talk.

And talk, we do! Waldorf Astoria lends itself to lounging and chatting. The combination is perfect for connecting. She tells us about joining Waldorf Astoria Riviera Maya a year ago, bringing with her fourteen years of experience, and how on her very first morning she stood on the beach and felt “the spark of a new beginning”—a feeling she admitted she hadn’t felt in a long time. One of her earliest memories here still lingers with her: hosting a wedding for a couple who had fallen in love with the property long before, the bride telling her, “You make it feel like you’ve been here forever,” unaware that Carolina was still finding her footing.

“That moment has stayed with me because it reminded me why I made this leap after fourteen years.” Carolina expresses as we enjoy the breeze next to the pool. “This resort, this team, gave me the space to rediscover the joy in what I do: creating moments that feel effortless, meaningful, and unforgettable.”

Peacock Alley Bar feels like a natural progression, or perhaps the light took us there. Jewel tones wrap the space in a kind of cinematic richness, deep and glowing, while the air carries the mingled aromas of freshly brewed coffee and carefully shaken cocktails. And then there’s Sandra, Leisure Sales Manager – Key Accounts. She stands out instantly in a mustard yellow dress, the color bold and assured, perfectly at home against the elegance of the bar.

The room hums—glassware clinking softly, low conversations unfolding, everything twinkling just enough to feel alive. There is a quiet sharpness to her presence. She speaks about being part of the hotel since its opening with the intimacy of someone who has seen the place grow.

One of her first weeks, she recalls, brought a high-profile partner visit and a last-minute change that could have unraveled the day—but instead, she adapted seamlessly, reshaping the experience in real time, welcoming guests personally, and ensuring everything unfolded effortlessly. Listening to her makes us feel the anticipation of something great, even if we aren’t sure what.

Once we step outside again, the palms seem to lean in—as if curious, or perhaps amused, by how the light continues to chase us. The resort unfurled around us like a private world: 100 acres of silken white sand, crystal-clear sea, lush mangroves, and a horizon that feels both infinite and inviting.

Waldorf Astoria Riviera Maya doesn’t just sit beside the Caribbean; it feels rooted in it. Between hidden paths there is the culture and nature you would come to expect from a sanctuary like this.

At the outdoor bar, framed by palms and Caribbean light, we find Francisco Zurita, Wedding Sales Manager—and for a moment, time seems to slip. There is something undeniably classic about him, the kind of presence that calls to mind old cinema glamour: relaxed posture, impeccably sharp, and a confidence that doesn’t rush to introduce itself.

He wears a light blue blazer with soft beige trousers, sun-washed and precise, the look of someone who understands elegance as instinct rather than effort. His smile was easy, assured, the kind that lingers. As we talked, he shared that he recently joined the Hilton and Waldorf Astoria family with a clear vision: to elevate the romance and wedding space by leaning fully into the brand’s core values. “Waldorf Astoria is genuine luxury,” he says as we meander back to the lobby.

What animates him most is the idea of ceremonies staged on refined platforms among palm trees, or vows exchanged above the water on glass floors with panoramic ocean views. He speaks of weddings here as the iconic moments they become. Listening to him, it’s easy to see why. Francisco doesn’t just imagine romance, he knows how to frame it, giving love its proper close-up.

By the time we made our final rounds, we realize that the light never leaves you at Waldorf Astoria Riviera Maya. Not just because of its shimmering pools, or jewel-toned bars –it’s defined by the people who inhabit it. From Nazareth’s ethereal command of hospitality, to Fabian’s luminous energy, Carolina’s bold yet effortless presence, Sandra’s intuitive precision, and Francisco’s cinematic charm, each person brings a unique ray of sunshine to an experience that will leave you feeling engulfed in warmth.
